Thanksgiving - pictures of the cousins

We had a fun time spending Thanksgiving in Erie this year. We were able to go for 5 days. The girls really enjoyed spending time with all of their family.

Grandma got all of the girls matching Christmas outfits, so we tried very hard to get some cute pictures of them all together. It was hard to get all of them looking at us and smiling, really it was impossible :)

It is too bad the lighting is bad on this picture because the girls were finally all looking :)

Fall Festivities

We went with some people from our church to the Northwoods apple orchard. The girls loved picking and eating lots of apples. Hannah ate at least 5 apples! The also have a little petting zoo that the girls enjoyed.

Chloe loved the sheep. She walked up to them and said "Baa" to them.

They had some pumpkins that you could get as well.

Andy and Hannah made a cake for Cassie's 31st birthday. It was quite a surprise!

Chloe was obviously a sheep this year and Hannah was Cinderella.

Chloe loved going to the houses and getting candy. It is too bad that she could not eat any of it. She only got to go to a few houses. Hannah went for a little while longer and enjoyed herself this year too.

We stopped by Aunt Tiffany and Uncle Chris' house for Trick or treating. Unfortunately Tiffany had to work that night, but it was good to see Chris. The girls both got fun books from them.

Ayden's 3rd birthday party

This is a little late being posted since Ayden's birthday was in September, but I thought that I would share it anyways. The girls had a great time at the party!

After the party, the girls had a great time playing in the mud in the backyard. Uncle Jeff was kind enough to keep bringing them water to make more mud.

A little bit of country life

One of the great things about going back to Erie is that the girls get to experience a little bit of country living.

Jeff had lined up all of the tractors outside, so the girls got to go into each one of them. This first one is his "new" tractor that he bought. It is his first tractor that he has bought, so it was a big deal.

Chloe thought that it was fun to sit in the tires. It just shows how big tractor tires really are!

Cameron kidnapped the girls and took them on the four wheeler. Look how much fun Ayden is having. She has done this a "few" times.

Oh no, the girls behind the wheel. The first thing Hannah said when she got in the car is "How do we turn on the music?"

It looks like things are going okay, but really . . .

They hit the tree. Hopefully this does not happen for real in their future. Yes there is a different driver. Ayden was going to try to back it out after Hannah hit the tree.

Niabi Zoo

We were able to go back to Illinois for the weekend to celebrate Ayden's 3rd birthday. The first thing that we did when we arrived was go to Niabi Zoo in Coal Valley. We had a picnic lunch there from Subway. The girls really enjoyed their time there.

They really enjoyed sitting on all the various animal statues.

Grandma bought all of the girls matching sunglasses. It is funny that Hannah is wearing them on her head just like her mama.

The girls loved the coy pond. We let them feed the ducks and fish.

They had a little petting zoo that you could feed the goats, cows, and pigs.

Ayden was much braver when it came to feeding the animals.

You could also feed the birds and they would land on you. One of them even pooped on Jessi.

They had a place that you could feed the giraffes, but we were too cheap to do it. We were still able to get really close to them.

Hannah and Ayden have such a great time together.

Hannah's First Day of Preschool

On September 7th, Hannah went to her first day of preschool at Kingdom Kids. She will be going to school on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 9 - 11:30 a.m.

She got a new Tinkerbell backpack for school.

She is "running" to get to school. Good thing the school is only about a mile from our house.

This is her new classroom and teacher. Her teachers this year are Mrs. Eagen and Mrs. Hunter. She really likes her teachers and her classmates.

Family Camp August 2011

On Saturday, July 30 we drove up to northern Wisconsin to spend the week at our church's family camp at Fort Wilderness. It was a wonderful week getting to know other people from Autumn Ridge. The girls loved all the time that they were able to spend in the wonderful outdoors.
The guest speaker this year was George Kenworthy. He was a good speaker and gave some challenging talks.

This year we were able to spend the week in a camper. We were very grateful for the camper, especially one night when it poured down rain and everyone in tents were soaked. Andy and Hannah actually slept in a tent most of the week, even though there was plenty of room in the camper. Their tent and sleeping bags were even wet from the rain, but they still slept in it.

Hannah and Chloe both enjoyed playing in the sand and water on the lake. We spent every afternoon that we could on the water. Andy spent a lot of time diving from the platform.
Andy and Cassie also swam out to the rock one day, which is about a mile swim. It was a good challenge!

There are no pictures, but we did take the girls on a tube float one afternoon. It was pretty cold, but the girls did fairly well. Chloe slept on Cassie for half of the ride. It would have been a lot better if it had been a hot day.

Hannah also spent A LOT of time on the tire swing. Our camper was right next to the little park that they have so we were there all the time.

Hannah wanted to go higher and higher. The girl has little fear.

On Wednesday afternoon they had the lake baptisms. These are the four women who were baptized this year. They all give a little testimony and then are baptized. It is really neat to be a part of.

Chloe hates the sun in her eyes, but she was enjoying her time in the sand.

On Thursday morning we went on the Wranglers breakfast.

Both of the girls really liked the horses.

The horses pulled us in a wagon to the breakfast.

This is the view that we had at the wrangler breakfast.

The week was another successful week for our family. We really enjoyed each day, but it was nice to go home after being gone for almost 2 weeks straight.

South Dakota Family Vacation

On Saturday, July 23rd we left for a one week adventure to South Dakota. Our first stop was in Worthington, MN for lunch at the Ground Round. We continued our drive and stopped in Mitchell to see the World Famous Corn Palace.

This is the only corn palace in the world. It was pretty cool to see.

They change the outside of the corn palace every year.

The inside of the corn palace is even decorated. They do not have to redo this as often.

Hannah really enjoyed her ice cream treat at the little shop across from the corn palace. She loves "pink" ice cream.
Then we finished our drive for the day to Oacoma, SD to stay in the Days Inn. We went swimming at the hotel. Hannah loves swimming and is getting really comfortable. She is starting to put her arms and legs in motion together. Chloe also loves the water. Although at this point, she mostly tries to drink it.

Sunday was another travel day, although we managed to pack it full of adventures. We were able to make it to the Badlands National Park in time for lunch.

The Badlands is beautiful. It is mostly a place that you drive through and stop at the overlooks.

There were a few places that you could go "climbing". We took full advantage of this time. Hannah and Andy loved to climb to the top.

We gave Hannah her own camera to take pictures with. It was interesting to see the world through a 3 year old's perspective.

On our drive to Custer we stopped at the World Famous Wall Drug. There were too many billboards to count on the way out not to stop. It was cool to say that we stopped but it wasn't that great. The ice cream was terrible!! After Wall we drove to the Best Western in Custer where we stayed for two nights. We had dinner at Cattleman's. It was okay, but not great.

On Monday we went to Custer State Park in the morning. We started off with a hike around Legion Lake.

Hannah loved hiking and climbing up the rocks. Both girls did wonderful with the mile hike.

After hiking Legion Lake, we took the Needle Highway Scenic Drive to Sylvan Lake. It was a beautiful, but very narrow and winding road.

Sylvan Lake is gorgeous. We went on a ~ 1 mile hike around it.

We drove back to Custer for lunch at the Purple Pie Place. It was a cute little lunch/ice cream place.

Hannah really liked the purple pig outside of the restaurant.

After lunch we headed to Wind Cave National Park.

On the way to the cave, we saw bison, antelope, and prairie dogs in the wild.

Once at Wind Cave we took the 1.5 hour guided tour through the cave. There is ~ 136 miles of discovered cave within 1 square foot mile. It is one of the largest caves in the world. This is only natural occurring entrance into the cave. This is where the original explorers would enter the cave.

Hannah loved going on the tour. She did a great job listening to the guide and staying on the path.

This is one of the places that they let people climb through during one of the guided tours. It looked like a fun tour to go on.

Today we had another packed full day. We started off going to the Crazy Horse. We saw the orientation movie and did the guided tour.

It was interesting to hear the history and to see a work in progress. It will be interesting to come back later and see how it changed.

The part that amazed me was to see how big it is compared to Mount Rushmore.

This is one of the replicas of what the final product will look like.

After Crazy Horse we went to Mount Rushmore.

Chloe really enjoyed Mount Rushmore. She slept the whole time until we went to lunch.

We stopped in Keystone on the way back. We were thinking about going on the 1880 train but it was too long of a wait so we decided to go to the Reptile Garden instead.

It was $15/person which seemed a little spendy but it was worth it. Hannah loved the snakes.

Chloe really like the tortoises. There were two of them.

There was an alligator show. There was a guy who showed how to wrestle with an alligator as well as how to feed them. I have always wanted to know how to wrestle an alligator. You never know when you might need to have that skill :)

There was also a tropical place with birds, turtles, snakes, and lizards that were not caged up. Hannah really enjoyed touching the snakes.

Chloe thought that the snake was pretty cool too.

On Wednesday we had a very kid friendly day. We started off at the Storybook Island. It is a free park that is big and amazing. The girls loved it!

They had just about every popular children's books represented. This is the 3 little pigs.

We tried really hard to get 2 princesses in the picture, but Hannah would not stand there for more than a split second. She wanted to look at the front of it.

We let the girls take the train ride around the park. They both enjoyed it!

Chloe really enjoyed swinging.

At the end of the day, we let Hannah pick out whatever toy she wanted at the gift shop. We were a little nervous to give her the option to pick out whatever she wanted, but it was going to a good cause. The gift shop is what helps support the park. After much deliberation, Hannah decided on a Fairy Melissa and Doug puzzle.

After the Storybook Island, we went to the Dinosaur Park. It had 8 different cement dinosaurs up on the top of a hill. You could climb up on top of some of them. Chloe slept through the whole experience even when Andy climbed to the top of them.

After the Dinosaur Park, we went to Bear Country. It is a place that you drive through and the animals roam free in their area. They come right up to your car.

Their were reindeer, elk, bighorn sheep, bison, wolves, mountain lions, and bears. There were probably over 50 bears!

It is amazing to me how many antlers the reindeer had. It looks like they should just tip over.

It was amazing to see all of the animals up close. Although at one time Hannah asked if she could watch Dora. It made me laugh that in the midst of seeing some really cool things, Hannah wanted to watch Dora.

Unfortunately our camera battery died when we got to the bears, so we do not have a bunch of the bear pictures. We did get some good videos.

At the end they had more animals and baby animals in Babyland. The girls got personalized animal cups at the gift shop. After Bear Country we decided to go back to Sylvan Lake to go swimming. It was kind of a long drive but it was fun to go back. Hannah loved playing in the sand with a new friend that she met, while Chloe tried eating the sand. On our way back to the hotel, we went to dinner at the Firehouse Brewery. It was very good.

This is the hotel and slide at the Grand Gateway Hotel in Rapid City. Hannah loved swimming. She went down the slide by herself one time. Her face had shear terror the whole way down and then she went underwater even with her floaties on. She was not impressed by the experience.

Andy loved going down the slide. He went down head first even with the sign that said "feet first only". Then he tried to get as much speed as possible.

The next day we took off to Sioux Falls, SD to stay for a night at the Best Western Hotel. On Friday we drove the rest of the way back to Rochester for a quick stay. On Saturday we packed the car back up to head to Family Camp.

We also took a few pictures of the girls for their 1 and 3 year pictures. They are not as good as LaChelle's, but it is still fun to take them.
Chloe is much more a smiley girl when the camera comes out. Hannah usually stops smiling when she sees a camera. It is fun to see how the girls react differently in some situations and yet at other times act the same. They definitely have their own personalities :)

We decided to have LaChelle Wieme take our family pictures in June, as well as a few extra pictures of the girls. We took them at the Plummer House. She did a great job and taught us a couple things in the process. This is just a sample of all of the pictures that she took.

That night when we were cleaning everything up she said that she was looking for something to wear. We could be in trouble in the future :)

Girls' Birthday - June 4th

June 4th was a perfect day to celebrate the girls 1st and 3rd birthdays! We could not have asked for a better day! It was warm and sunny. The party was a lot of fun. We had a great turnout. Almost everyone who we invited were able to come. There were about 40 people. We are very thankful for the important role that each person has in the girls' lives that were at the party.

Andy did a great job decorating the pavilion. He went out to Oxbow at 7 a.m. to reserve a spot. Good thing he went out that early. There were only 2 pavilions left.

We tried to get a cute picture of the girls in their hats together, but we could not get Hannah to really sit still because . . .

she wanted to be swinging. One of her favorite things to do. While Chloe was not at all impressed . . .

Once everyone arrived we went over to Zollman Zoo to see the animals. It is amazing to me how many animals they have at the zoo in this small town. Plus it is free! They have a bear, otters, birds, wolves, farm animals, and many more.
Hannah really enjoyed feeding the goat. She was not really afraid at all.

After the zoo, we went back to the pavilion for lunch. We had brats, chicken sausages, chips, pea salad, potato salad, and fresh fruit.

My friend, Jill, gave me the name of a lady, Mary Bruhn, who makes cakes from her house. She did a fabulous job making the cakes! They were the cutest and tastiest birthday cakes that I have ever had!

Chloe's cake was a lemon cake with raspberry buttercream frosting. It was designed to be a little present as you can see.

Hannah's cake was a pink princess cake as requested by Hannah. The wand was even edible. Although Hannah played around with it at our house for weeks following her party. Hannah's cake was a confetti cake with strawberry buttercream filling.

Chloe got to have her own cake that her Aunt Tiffany made for her. It had no eggs or milk in it. We are so grateful to Tiff for taking the time to do this for Chloe. She LOVED it!!!

We both love the frosting the most. Really all three girls. Hannah hardly ate any cake, just frosting.

After naps for almost the whole family, we went swimming in the backyard. They all loved going down the slide, even the big kid.

It was pretty cold water from the hose. Hannah and Daddy really did not mind. They are both "hot" people!

Ayden did not really like the cold water, but she played in it for awhile. She liked getting Andy wet.

In the evening we all went out for dinner at the Green Mill. Then came home and opened presents. We decided to do no presents this year for their party so there were only a few for the girls to open. They did not mind one bit that there were not a bunch. They loved each gift that they received.

Como Zoo and a Birthday celebration

We were able to spend Andy's mom's 55th birthday with her. We started out with blueberry pancakes for breakfast. Then we went to the Transportation Fair. After that we drove to the Cities to Como Zoo. For dinner we went to the Cheesecake Factory. It was a packed full day!

Hilton Head Island and The girls enjoying their time at home

We had the opportunity to go on an adult trip to Hilton Head Island for a "work" conference for Cassie. It is the same place that we went to for our honeymoon. So we have very fond memories. We once again traveled with our friends, Josh and Jessica Halverson. It was our favorite Mayo trip yet.
While the adults were enjoying time on the beach, playing tennis and golf, and enjoying the sunny weather, the girls were enjoying time with their Grandma and Grandpa Kumpel.

We had some amazing food while in Hilton Head. Lots and lots of seafood.

We went to Sea Pines Plantation and saw alligators. These were in someone's backyard. I can not imagine having alligators in backyard!!

One of our favorite activities that we did was going kayaking in Broad Creek. We saw a bunch of wildlife including dolphins!!!

Easter 2011

The girls woke up Easter morning and found that the Easter Bunny had brought them baskets full of gifts that also had butterfly wings attached to the baskets. Hannah really enjoyed wearing the wings around the house.

We had a great day. Tiffany and Chris joined us for lunch at our house as well as Justin, Amanda, and Caleb King. It was pretty low key, but still nice. After lunch, we had a little egg hunt for Hannah in the basement. She did a good job finding the eggs until she got distracted and started organizing all of the eggs by color. She has great organization skills already :)

Hannah had a little Dora dress in her basket. She enjoyed having her Daddy twirl her in circles.

We sort of did things a little backwards. We had a very full week leading up to Easter, so we decided to wait and color eggs on Easter evening.

She really liked the pink eggs! (Hannah told me that I should write that)

Chloe is really getting into eating. Unfortunately we recently found out that she is allergic to milk, eggs, and peanuts. It definitely has posed a problem with introducing new foods to her, but she does not seem to care too much. She loves just about everything we give her.

Family Weekend in Dubuque, Iowa

It is so fun to see things come full circle. Growing up we would have Klendworth getaways at various locations around the U.S. with our extended family. We decided to start our own traditions with my brothers, sister, mom, and their growing families.
March 11-13th we set off for Dubuque, Iowa to spend the weekend at the Grand Harbor Hotel. Its big attraction is the indoor waterpark. We had a lot of fun and are looking forward to our own "Klendworth" getaways.

Hannah, Chloe, and Ayden enjoyed playing in the sleeping tent. Chloe was the only one to actually sleep in it. Hannah wanted to sleep in her Grandma's bed.

Hannah and Ayden had such a fun time playing together. We wish that we lived closer and they could see each other more often!

Chloe tried her best to keep up with the girls, but they were too fast for her little legs.

This is the water slide that goes outside the hotel. It is VERY dark and fast. Hannah and Ayden both went down it. I don't think either of them were too impressed :)

Water, Water Everywhere!!! There were two slides on the back of this, but you had to go through a lot of different obstacles to get there. Both Hannah and Chloe went down the slides. We even got Grandma to go down them!!

On Saturday late morning, we decided to take a break from the waterpark and ventured to the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. It was literally right across the street from the hotel.

There was an interactive children section that the kids could do various water activities including building levies.

Hannah loved the alligator outside of the gift shop. She called it Rajah (after the tiger in Aladdin). She did not want to leave him. She even gave him kisses before we left.

Here are some of Chloe's 9 month pictures with Hannah included. The girls are growing and changing constantly. They are such a blessing to us every day!
Chloe is officially on the move. She took her first steps on March 27th, then the next day she figured out how to really crawl. So much for walking now. She finds crawling to be so much more efficient. She has also learned to clap and wave this month.

Chloe is such a great eater. She will eat just about anything. I thought that this one was cute because she has a puff stuck to her head. Later on Hannah stole it and ate it off her head. There is never a dull moment in our household with little girls.

"Nuk going away party"

So we finally decided that we had to get rid of the nuks once and for all for Hannah. So we decided to do a "Nuk going away party". We went around and collected all Hannah's nuks that we could find. Then we put them in a box and decorated the box to send to our friends who are having a baby.

Hannah enjoyed the party and actually did fairly well with everything. She had a couple nights that she would want her nuk and we would remind her that we sent them away to Joe's baby brother or sister. Then she would be okay with it.

We even had cake and ice cream at the party. Then we sang the "Goodbye" song from music class.

Valentine's Day and a few random pictures

The girls dressed the same for Valentine's Day. They are just so cute together. They are starting to play together more and more. Hannah likes to pick up Chloe and give her big hugs and kisses. We still have to watch pretty closely. One day Hannah tried walking Chloe and Chloe ended up falling face first into the floor. She cried for a second and then was laughing again. She is a trooper!

Hannah was "done" with pictures and took her clips out. Cute hair only last so long in our household :)

Chloe is already 8 months. It is hard to believe how quickly the time has gone. She has the sweetest personality and brings so much joy to our family.

Rest of our Florida trip

After the first day in Orlando, we drove to my Grandma Klendworth's place in Bradenton to stay the rest of the week. We had a packed full week. We found lots of playgrounds to play at and went to many different beaches. It was just so nice to not have to spend all day indoors like in Minnesota during the winter. Hannah said that her favorite part about the trip was swinging, but she definitely enjoyed the beach too. She liked to have Daddy build things and her destroy them.

The first day, we tried to play shuffleboard. We played for a few minutes before it started to rain. It was probably better that way. Hannah enjoyed herself, but it was a little dangerous having a two year old play shuffleboard.

Since it was raining, we found an indoor activity to do. So we went to "U Bounce". It is similar to our "House of Bounce". It is full of big blow-up activities that you can bounce in or slide down.

Hannah got going a little too fast on the slide as you can tell. That really is her in that rug. She was still smiling afterwards and went down again. She is a brave little girl.

That night we went to the Alpine Steakhouse for dinner. Andy had seen this restaurant featured on "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives". It is know for the Turdukin. A turkey stuffed with a duck, which is stuffed with a chicken. Andy enjoyed it and he bought a t-shirt to remember the experience.

I decided that I did not need to bring a hair dryer because I thought for sure that Grandma would have one for me to borrow. I just did not realize what kind of hair dryer she would have. It worked pretty well, but seemed like a lot of work for dry hair :)

I think that this was Chloe's favorite part of the trip. She loved having a bath in the kitchen sink. I was covered in water from all of her splashing! She was such a trooper the whole trip despite having a fever for most of it, which ended up being from having an ear infection. Same story as Hannah when we went to Florida when Hannah was this age. Maybe we should not take our children to Florida when they are this age.

On Thursday, we went to Mixon's fruit farm for a tour.

We got to ride a little train and they told us all about the history of the orchard. Plus they have an animal rescue place where we got to see a bunch of different animals and here stories about how they came to live at the orchard while they heal before returning to the wild. Some of the animals will stay there for the rest of their lives.

They let people hold some of the animals. Of course, Andy jumped at the opportunity.

Hannah even touched some of the animals, including the snake.

Chloe wasn't all that impressed by everything. She decided to sleep through most of it :)

Sea World

Our first full day in Florida we spent the day in Sea World. We had a great time! Hannah kept saying that she wanted to ride the rollercoasters and telling us that she was big enough.

The Dolphin show with high divers was our favorite. It was just amazing!

Chloe loves eating Hannah's hair.

Sea Lions show was hilarious. Things did not go as planned for them, but it almost made it better that way.

I think that the "Shamu" show was Hannah's favorite part of the day. Grandma bought her a Shamu stuffed animal that she just loves.

We fed the sting rays. They were rather aggressive.

I can't remember what this creature was called, but it had plants growing on it. Very strange

Travel Day to Florida

On January 15th, we left Rochester, MN at below zero weather to seventy degree weather to visit my Grandma Klendworth in Bradenton, Florida for a week. The girls did great traveling!

As we walked down the stairs on Christmas morning, we told Hannah that Santa came to Grandma's house to bring presents. She turned around and walked upstairs. She said that she did not want to come downstairs if Santa was there. We convinced her that he had left.

Santa brought the girls a new Radio Flyer wagon.

There were a lot of presents, which were mostly for the 3 girls. It was like a toy store!

The traditions live on in the Klendworth household. Andy reclaimed his Ping Pong title. I think that some people enjoyed us not being there last year, so that someone else could win for a change.

Breakfast with Santa and Gingerbread house

We went to Breakfast with Santa at the Rochester Athletic Club. Hannah enjoyed the breakfast and the various activities: decorating cookies, drawing pictures, and putting stickers on paper ornaments. She did not like Santa at all. As soon as we walked into the room with Santa sitting there, she tried to leave. She cried a lot! The only way we were able to get her picture taken with Santa was to have me sit with Santa.

Chloe, however, liked Santa and his beard and did not mind being held by him at all.

Hannah and I tried to decorate a Gingerbread house. Hannah kept eating the materials. She ate the gingerbread man and then the snowman, as well as some of the frosting.

It is not very pretty, but we had fun!

We have had a lot of fun taking Chloe's 6 month pictures. We are getting a little better at taking pictures and editing them, but we still have room to improve. It is nice to have such a great subject matter. Chloe is such a smiley, happy baby.

The girls love to read books together. They play really well with each other!

Christmas preparation - a couple new traditions

I decided this year we should make it a tradition to go get our Christmas tree the weekend following Thanksgiving. Then we can enjoy it the whole month of December.
We got the biggest tree that we have ever gotten and I think the strongest smelling. Andy loves real trees because of how they smell, so he definitely picked out a good one. He was joking about how he put an air freshener in the tree so it would smell really strong.

We also made an advent calendar this year. I remember my best friend growing up having one similar to this that they put stickers on every day leading up to Christmas. I always thought that it was really fun. So we made our own version. The little "presents" are filled with stickers for Hannah to put on the tree every year. It turned out pretty good for our first attempt.

We could not have asked for better "helpers" to help us put up all of the Christmas decorations.

Andy did not like the big flower at all and thinks that we will look back at this pictures and say to ourselves, "What was I thinking?".

Hannah and Mommy had so much fun one day building a giant tent in the living room. It fell down quite a few times because you can't really convince a two year old that you should not try to walk on it, but we enjoyed it.

We had the opportunity to host our very first Thanksgiving. Andy's parents and Grandma joined in on the celebration. We could not have done it without Andy's mom's expertise in the kitchen.

Halloween

Chloe was an adorable skunk. She stayed with Mommy to hand out candy while Daddy and Hannah went Trick or Treating on our street. Hannah did a great job saying "Trick or Treak" and "Thank you". I think that she enjoyed handing out the candy when she got back and seeing all the kids just as much. She is quite the social little girl.

The cutest little giraffe you have ever seen. Hannah picked her costume out this year. We went to a bunch of different zoos this summer and the giraffe was always her favorite animal.

Cassie's 30th Birthday

Andy did a fabulous job this year planning my 30th birthday. I knew that we were having a party, but did not know anything else. He even drove me around Rochester blindfolded before the party so that I would not know where we were going. The party was held at the Rochester Athletic Club in the Neighborhood with a Mexican theme.

A big family day

On October 17th, we had quite a big family day. It started out with Chloe being dedicated at Autumn Ridge Church by Pastor John Steer.

In the afternoon we had the honor of being a part of Beth and Matt Anderson's wedding. Andy officiated the wedding. Cassie was the Matron of Honor and Hannah was the Flower girl. The wedding was held at Autumn Ridge and the reception was at the Plummer House.

We went and took pictures for some friends of ours at Silver Lake a few weeks back. We had them take a few of our family while we were there. Unfortunately we did not have any real good ones. It was fun to try to get some good fall pictures. I can only imagine what some people are thinking that our four month old is lying on the ground. I think that she will be just fine. She holds her head up well :)

Stillwater

We went to Stillwater the first weekend in October for a wedding. It was a beautiful time of year with the leaves starting to change colors. The only bad thing is that it was right after the big flood so the walking paths by the river were completely underwater.

Portland Trip September 2010

We had the opportunity to travel to Portland, Oregon for a conference for Cassie's work. Then we went to Washington to visit Andy's parents.

This was at OMSI - Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. There were a lot of different things to do at the museum for people of all ages. There was a room for young children that Isaac and Hannah really enjoyed.
We also went to the Planetarium. Hannah did not enjoy the show very much. She kept asking if the woman could shut it off.

This is Multnomah Falls. It is just outside of Portland. We hiked to the top of it with all the kids. It was quite a feat!

Our friends, Josh, Jessica, and Isaac Halverson came with us on our trip again this year. It was great to spend the week with them.

Hannah borrowed Isaac's sweatshirt. It was pretty funny since Isaac is a year younger than Hannah. It was a little small.

There was a balloon guy at the Portland Saturday Market. He made Hannah a monkey and Andy a heart with lovebirds in it.

On our way to Washington we drove to Mount Rainier National Park. It was beautiful, but cold.

August - a month of ups and downs

Our August started off well. We had a mini family "stay-cation" for four day. We spent one day in the Cities going to Como Zoo, visiting Andy's seminary, and eating at the Cheesecake Factory. The month unfortunately had a sad ending. My grandpa passed away on August 21st and Andy's grandpa passed away on the 30th.

Lots of people were commenting on how Chloe looked like a baby doll. She really does sort of look like one.

We had a swallow nest at our front door this summer. We enjoyed watching the progress as they built the nest and the babies were born. It was a little crowded for awhile, but now they have flown away.

The girls had matching outfits to wear for the Western themed party that Tiffany bought them when she was in Texas. It was perfect.

Fourth of July

We spent the Fourth of July weekend in Wisconsin visiting Andy's family. We started out by going to Madison Zoo and then we picked Andy's parents up from the Madison airport. Then we went to Aunt Sue's house in Beloit for the night. On Saturday we went to Racine for a get together with Andy's extended family and to visit Andy's grandparents. On Sunday we went back to Aunt Sue's house to hang out and then drove back to Rochester on Monday. It was a packed full weekend.

Chloe arrived so quickly after getting to the hospital that I felt great almost right away after she was born. She was born less than 40 minutes after arriving to the hospital. There was no time for me to get an epidural or even an IV.

The one good thing about the car accident and me being clumsy is that we have had lots of ultrasounds of our precious baby girl. This is the 9th ultrasound, compared to the normal 2 that we had with Hannah.

They even did a few 3D images, but it was hard to get really good pictures because she had her hand in front of her face most of the time.

I think that her nose looks like Hannah. I guess we will see soon enough.

God's mercy

This past weekend was much more eventful than we had planned, but we are thankful to be alive!
As Hannah has so preciously put it, "Momma's car has bumps. It is broken."

In the Palm of His Hands

I'm not a fan of Christian clichés. I think they reduce the way we perceive God to a manageable size and take away from His awesome majesty. Yet there are times in our lives when these kinds of clichés become true to our experiences. Last Saturday night this cliché “In the palm of His hands,” became very real for our family. We left church on Saturday anticipating a night of fellowship with other young married couples from ARC. Our expectations were shattered as were hit head on by a drunk driver who was driving the wrong way on our side of the divided road. The car did what it was supposed to do, so Cassie who is 8 months pregnant suffered a fractured sternum (chest bone). However, our 23 month old daughter Hannah and I both escaped the accident relatively unscathed. Cassie spent the weekend at the hospital having our unborn child monitored and everything looks good with the baby.

I'm writing today to thank all of the wonderful people at Autumn Ridge who upheld our family in prayer over the last week. We truly felt encouraged and supported by the body of Christ and God's Holy Spirit. It's hard to express the gratitude that I felt for God's provision of safety as I looked down at our sleeping daughter late Saturday night. For my wife, Cassie, this was an awful way to spend Mother's Day. But God has replaced her shock, dismay, and worry with the joyful anticipation of a healthy baby that is yet to be born. In the midst of the twisted metal, the smoking dashboard, and chaos of a car accident we truly felt like we were being held safely in the palm of God's hands. It's hard to explain what this feels like, but over this past week it has taken shape through the countless acts of love, encouragement, and compassion from so many of you. Please join our family in praising God for keeping us safe from harm and drawing us through Christ with the eyes of faith to cling to Him more each day.

Rochester police arrested a Hayfield man on expected charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and criminal vehicular operation after he was involved in a head-on collision in southeast Rochester on Saturday night.

The crash was reported at 7:20 p.m. near Woodlake Drive Southeast and 40th Street.

The 27-year-old Hayfield man, a 50-year-old Rochester man who was in the vehicle with him, and a woman in the other vehicle who is 8 months pregnant all were injured in the accident and taken to Saint Marys Hospital, said Rochester Police Sgt. Craig Anderson.

The pregnant woman had possible pelvis and sternum injuries. Two other people riding with her were not injured, according to the police report.

A blood sample was taken from the suspect driver, which led to his arrest. He also faces a charge of driving after revocation, Anderson said.

The life of the Kumpels these days

We are very busy these days, but loving life none the less. Hannah is keeping us entertained on a daily basis by what she says and does. She is now talking in full sentences and repeating a lot of what we say. We have to really be careful.

So Hannah has done a really good job of pooping mostly in the potty since she was about 13 months. It is pretty incredible, but sometimes we have moments like these. Look closely under the princess potty.

I am now 34 weeks pregnant.

In the midst of being 34 weeks pregnant and running after a toddler. We are trying to finish our basement. Andy has done an incredible job. Here are the "progress" pictures. This is the wall that will have built in shelves and the TV.

This is the rest of the main room with a wet bar and a play area for the girls. We will also have a bedroom and bathroom in the basement as well.

Hannah insisted that she wear her high heels and pajamas around one morning.

Hannah and I made May baskets to take back with us on our trip to Erie. I told her to smile for me and she looked at the camera and said "Cheese". It was so funny!

Hannah is quite the little helper these days. She always wants to try to help. As she says , "I try" in her cute little voice.

She kept saying "Again, again" so that she could vacuum some more.

Then we moved on to something not quite so loud.

She even wanted to sweep the rug.

Easter

We had a good Easter this year. Andy played Jesus in the Easter Musical at our church on Palm Sunday. He did a great job!! It was one of the best Easter musicals that I have ever seen. Andy even rode a donkey into the church.

Hannah loved wearing her very girly pink dress from her Grandma Klendworth. She said that she was wearing her "pretty pink dress".

We attempted to color Easter eggs with Hannah. She wanted them to all be pink, but we did make some of each of the colors. She had fun putting the stickers on them.

Hannah got tired about half way through coloring eggs.

On Sunday we had a mini Easter egg hunt at our house. I hid the eggs for Andy, Becky, and A.J. Then I basically just put Hannah's out in plain site. She was so cute. She was so excited when she found each of the eggs. She kept saying, "Mama, more eggs!"

Hannah found her Easter basket on the back deck. She took the eggs from her one basket to put them with all of the eggs from the egg hunt.

She was most excited about the Wheat Thins that I gave Andy. She wasn't that interested in the chocolate in the eggs.

Mexico trip

On Feb. 27th we left Rochester to embark on a vacation to the Riveria Maya area in Mexico for a whole week. We had the opportunity to travel with some close friends from church; Chris, Karyn, and Josef Grenz and a babysitter, Lindsey Salfer. Our travel went well overall. We had a little trouble with checking in, only to later find out that the airline had made a mistake. Oh well, we made it safely. Once we were in Cancun, we rented cars and drove to Playa Del Carmen. We went grocery shopping at none other than the Super Wal-Mart there. It was quite the experience trying to figure out what everything was, but we did well. Then we drove to the Villa Gummerson in Akumal. It was a great place to stay, as you will see from the pictures.
We took way too many pictures to post, but it gives you an idea of our trip. We had a wonderful time!!

We went here for Andy's 30th birthday. It was very fresh and great food. The salsa definitely had a kick to it. Good thing that new baby does not mind spicy foods.

During the day for Andy's birthday, we went to Hidden Worlds. It was a day of adventures. They had ziplines, sky cycles, cenotes, monkeys, and many other things in the middle of the jungle. We had a great day.

We even took Hannah in the Cenote, but she did not last long. It was very cold even with a wet suit on.

On one of the days Chris, Andy, and I went to Coba to see some Mayan Ruins. It is the only place that you can still climb to the top of one of the Ruins. It was quite the hike, but worth it!! While we were there we rented bikes to get around the place. It was nice to get around quickly, but they were not the most padded bike seats :)

There was a kayak at the place where we stayed that we could take out anytime we wanted to. We took Hannah out with us a couple of times. She did great.

She managed to fall asleep on our kayak ride. Hannah became very good at being able to sleep almost any where during our trip.

Chris, Karyn, Andy, and I went to Playa Del Carmen for a night on the town. You never know what kind of transportation that you may find.
While we were in Playa, we ate at a very good Argentina Steakhouse. We definitely ate well during this trip. We had a couple nights that we had a private chef come to the house to cook us dinner. The other nights we ate very well at different restaurants.

Gymnastics class

In January, Hannah took her first gymnastics classes. It was a four week class at JETS gymnastics. She really enjoyed it. She definitely learned new things and improved in the four week time period. We will have to sign her up again this summer when she is a little older. I think that she will enjoy it even more.

For Christmas Hannah received a fish aquarium from Cam and Jessi. She loves her fishes. She even says "I want to see my fishies" or "I want a chair" (Then she can bring the chair to see the fishes). She also likes to turn the light on and off. The fish are less excited about the lights.

The fish are named Goldie, Junior, Morneau, and Mauer (He was traded to the Angels after the first week of playing for Hannah's team) Morneau and Mauer were named after Twins players because they were both Calico fish. Junior was named after Hannah and Goldie is the only true goldfish.

For Christmas Hannah received personalized scrubs from my Uncle Doug and Aunt Linnea. She loves to wear my scrub hats around the house. She really thinks that they are her hats.

She is learning how to use my stethoscope.

Trip to Canada and to Mount Baker

We went to Vancouver, British Columbia for a day trip. If you look really close, there are Olympic rings in the background to the right. The 2010 Winter Olympics will be held in Vancouver in February.

Since Phil and Elizabeth live in Southern California, they really wanted to see snow. So we drove 2 hours up to Mount Baker to see snow and go "sledding". It was rather funny since we have so much snow here in MN, but it was a memory maker. Especially after walking for 30 minutes to try to go sledding and never really finding a sledding hill. It was really beautiful as you can see.

Mom decided to try to pull Hannah and Elizabeth up hill. It was pretty comical.

I love mom's face, especially when seeing Elizabeth's face at the same time.

Christmas 2009

After spending our first seven Christmases with Cassie's family, we decided to spend one with Andy's family. So we flew out to Washington for a little over a week. We had a really nice time.

Hannah kept trying to open the presents before Christmas day. She managed to open a few while we were doing something else.

Hannah liked the oranges from the stockings.

Hannah loved all of her presents!

Hannah finished opening all her presents and ours, so she moved on to opening her Grandma Kumpel's presents.

We celebrated Christmas at our house before we flew out to Washington.

Hannah loved her Laugh and Learn Cow. We had given a Laugh and Learn Pig to Ayden for Christmas and Hannah loved it. We decided to get her one of her own.

Hannah is dancing and twirling with her new cow. Anytime she hears music, she starts dancing right away. It is super cute!

Hannah got more blocks to go in her wagon that she received for her birthday. She really liked dumping them all over. With the extra Duplos, she can build quite the tower.

SNOW, SNOW, AND MORE SNOW!
We had such a big snow storm that I could not even get out of our driveway to go to work in my car. I had to take Andy's car and he had to stay at home. The church office even closed that day.

We took Hannah to the mall to meet Santa. After waiting in the line for 45 minutes and missing snack time, she was not that impressed by Santa. He tried his best, but she was very serious.

Her favorite part was taking Santa's toys and running away.

At the Klendworth Christmas, we always have Chex Mix. Hannah and I decided to make it at our house. She really enjoyed helping me stir the cereal, pretzels, and nuts together.

November 2009

We had the privilege of being a part of Tiffany and Chris' wedding. Andy officiated the wedding, Hannah was the flower girl, and Cassie was the Matron of Honor. The wedding was in Rochester at the Double Tree hotel. It was a wonderful wedding.

Cassie's 29th Birthday - October

For my birthday, Andy planned a "day of adventure". He had wrapped present inside of present with clues to the next activity. We went all over the Twin Cities.

We started out going to Axel's Bonfire. For dessert we had flourless chocolate cake. Hannah absolutely loved it!!

Then we went to the Minnesota Zoo.

After the zoo we went to the Mall of America to "shop until we dropped". Hannah was asleep before we even went into the first store. Next we went to "The Nook", a restaurant featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives". On our way home we went to "Izzy's Ice Cream". It was featured on "Bobby Flay's Throwdown". It was certainly a birthday to remember.

Ayden's first birthday and Tiff's Bridal Shower - September

Sedona trip - September 2009

Wow the last few months have certainly been busy for our family. It is now time to catch up on the blog.

In September, our family traveled with our friends, the Halverson's, to Sedona, Arizona for an anesthesia conference. We had a wonderful opportunity to stay at someone's winter home from Rochester while we were there. It was amazing.

This was the view that we had outside of the house that we stayed at.

This is the view that we had from the master shower. I think that the shower was Andy's favorite place in the house :) He enjoyed the 4 shower heads.

The red rock was amazing. The pictures don't really do it justice.

We took a day trip to the Grand Canyon. It was breath-taking!!

It was also very windy while we were there as you can tell from our hair.

The pictures only capture a small portion of the canyon. It is amazing how big it is. We really enjoyed walking around and seeing "everything".

Andy and I went hiking while our friend's watched Hannah. I loved the cactus! After our hike, we changed our clothes in the car and "freshened" up and went to a really nice Italian restaurant.

We went to Slide Rock State Park. It is a slide that is naturally occuring. We had lots of fun going down it, but it was REALLY cold.

I don't know why but I just love this picture of Andy and Hannah.

I loved going off roading in the Razor with Andy. I am sure that Hannah would have loved going if we would have let her :)
